Are You Listing Tasks or Proving Value?

Because Your Role Is Bigger Than Your Task List

As EAs, we are used to explaining what we do. We manage diaries. We protect time. We handle inboxes. We support senior leaders. All of that is true, and all of it matters.

What is shifting in 2026 is how that information is assessed. Listing responsibilities gives context. It does not prove capability. Hiring managers and Executives are listening for something more specific. They want to hear how you think, what you changed, and what improved because you were in the role.

This week’s theme is about making your value visible. Instead of repeating tasks, walk through decisions. Instead of saying you manage something, explain how you structured it, what you considered, and what happened next. When you do that, the conversation changes.

If you have been applying for roles recently and are wondering what hiring Managers really look for in EAs, you will know the feeling. You polish your resume, tweak the wording again, update LinkedIn so it reflects what you actually do, rehearse your answers in your head or out loud, and double-check your examples so they sound clear and relevant.

Finding an EA role in 2026 is a challenge, even for the most experienced among us. The market has shifted. Hiring standards have changed. What employers want from an Executive Assistant today is often very different from what was expected even a few years ago. If you’ve been job hunting recently, you’re not imagining it. It feels harder because it is.

Key Points for This Week

When you move from listing tasks to explaining decisions, you sound less like a job description and more like a strategic partner.

  • Audit your CV and LinkedIn for what I call “job description energy,” because if a line could apply to almost any EA in almost any company, it is probably too vague.
  • Take one everyday responsibility and turn it into a short case study, and by that I mean slow it down and walk it through properly. What was happening at the time? What options were on the table? What trade-offs did you have to weigh up? What did you decide to do, and what changed afterwards?
  • Choose one area of your work this month and measure it. Maybe you reduced email backlog from two days to same-day responses, or you protected three hours of focus time each week by restructuring the calendar. Once you start tracking these shifts, you realise how much you are actually influencing.
  • When you talk about AI, avoid listing tools and instead describe how it fits into your workflow, because that is what people are really interested in. Explain what you used it for, how you checked the output, and what improved once it became part of your process.

The EA Campus training has grown significantly over the last year, especially in AI, tech, and practical Masterclasses for Executive Assistants. As we look ahead, we want to make sure what we build next reflects what you actually need in your role.

We’ve put together a short questionnaire. It’s 5 questions and should take under 2 minutes to complete. We would love your input. Thanks for helping shape what EA Campus delivers next.

Tech Stack

HeyGen

HeyGen is a video tool that lets you create realistic videos using an AI avatar and your script, so you can produce internal updates, onboarding explainers, or event announcements without being on camera. For EAs supporting busy leaders, that can be genuinely useful. You can turn a written briefing into a polished video message, create consistent comms for global teams across time zones, or draft a first version for your Executive to approve before it goes out.
