If Your Career Feels a Bit Wobbly Right Now
If you’re reading this in the first week of January, there’s a good chance one of two things is happening - you’re back at work, and your inbox is already feral, or you’re quietly wondering what on earth 2026 has in store for your career. Probably both are happening.
After everything that 2025 threw at us, layoffs, being ghosted by recruiters promising those elusive 150k jobs, AI panic headlines, and job descriptions that make absolutely no sense, it’s normal to feel a bit… off. Especially if you’ve been trying to find a new EA role and getting nowhere.
So instead of kicking the year off with 'new year, new you' energy (hard pass), I want to focus on something far more useful: reclaiming your value as an Executive Assistant because finding a new role in 2026 starts there.
|

Finding an EA role in 2026 is a challenge, even for the most experienced among us. The market has shifted. Hiring standards have changed. What employers want from an Executive Assistant today is often very different from what was expected even a few years ago. If you’ve been job hunting recently, you’re not imagining it.

Are you an aspiring Executive Assistant ready to ace your next Executive Assistant interview and take on your dream role? Getting through the Executive Assistant interview process can often feel daunting, but with the right preparation and mindset, you can nail it and land that dream job.

Easing Into 2026
- Start by getting clear on what actually changes because you’re in the role. Shift your focus away from listing tasks and toward the outcomes you enable, such as how your support affects decisions, priorities, or time use across the business.
- Translate your work into impact wherever you can. If you manage schedules, think about what that enables in real terms, for example, clearer planning, better use of leadership time, or fewer last-minute issues. That kind of framing carries far more weight than a list of responsibilities.
- Be specific about how you work and the tools you rely on. Talk about the systems you’ve introduced, the processes you maintain, and the judgment you apply in your day-to-day work.
- When everything feels heightened or rushed, lead with evidence. Numbers, concrete examples, or a simple before-and-after comparison help anchor conversations and demonstrate the value you bring. This makes your contribution easier to understand and easier to trust.
- Set aside one intentional touchpoint with yourself each week to review what you actually deliver. Capture it in writing while it’s still fresh in your mind. Over time, this becomes the foundation for updating your resume, refreshing your LinkedIn profile, preparing for interviews, or shaping performance conversations.
January doesn’t need a dramatic reset. A steadier approach is often more effective. When you’re clear on your value, the surrounding noise becomes easier to filter out, and the year ahead feels just that little bit more manageable.
