If Someone New Is Joining. Start Here

Five Touchpoints That Shape Every New Working Relationship

This week, we’re looking at the moments that matter when someone new joins your world. Whether it’s a new Executive or a new team member, those first interactions shape everything that comes next.

Reach out early
Send a short welcome note as soon as you know they’re joining. A quick intro, a warm congratulations, and an offer to jump on a call help you build some rapport before day one.

Ask the questions that matter
Their preferences will tell you everything. Meeting style, communication habits, and decision-making rhythm. When you understand how someone works, you can support them confidently from the start.

Make day one effortless
Clean desk. Working tech. The calendar invites are good to go. A simple welcome pack or digital hub will really help. When the first few days run smoothly, your new hire or Executive can focus on people, making connections, and finding their feet.

Curate the right introductions
Connection doesn’t happen on its own. Schedule early conversations with the people they’ll rely on most. Keep them short and purposeful. These first touchpoints shape how quickly they will feel part of the team.

Stay close and check in
Book a few light check-ins in the first month to keep communication open. It shows you’re paying attention, and it gives them a space to ask the questions they might not want to send over email. Small, consistent touchpoints will build that trust fast.

The way we approach onboarding new staff has changed dramatically. In 2025, onboarding new staff is about more than paperwork and welcome emails. Hybrid work, AI tools, and new employee expectations mean the process must be intentional, personalized, and well-organized from day one.

Let’s talk about Onboarding a New Executive – a task that can be challenging but is also an opportunity for us, as Assistants, to showcase our skills and add real value. Onboarding a New Executive requires careful planning, clear communication, and a proactive mindset.

Airtable

Airtable gives Assistants a simple way to organise information without the complexity of a traditional database. It works like a spreadsheet but lets you sort, filter, and link data in a way that keeps projects, travel details, contacts, events, and deadlines in one place. You can build views for your Executive, automate reminders, and create shared dashboards so everyone sees the same up-to-date information. It’s an easy way to keep fast-moving work structured and reduce the back-and-forth that slows teams down.

Goal-Setting Challenge

Reach out to one new or recently joined team member and make a simple, genuine connection. It doesn’t need to be a big gesture. A short welcome note, a quick chat after a meeting, or a “happy to help as you get settled” message is enough. These early touchpoints show you’re approachable and make it easier for them to ask questions or share context later. Small moments like this build trust quickly and shape how you work together.
