4 Feedback Power Moves Every Assistant Should Be Making
- Save the Receipts. That quick “thanks so much!” in Slack? The email where your colleague says you saved the day? Don’t let them disappear into the digital abyss. Start a dedicated praise folder - Google Doc, email label, screenshot gallery, whatever works. If someone takes the time to say “you nailed it,” that’s feedback you can use. These tiny moments are gold dust when it comes time to show your impact. They’re small on the surface, but they build a consistent story about your reliability, attention to detail, and influence across the business.
- Timing Is Everything. Feedback is most powerful when it’s fresh. Don’t wait until mid-year review season to dig through your inbox in a panic. Instead, build a rhythm: ask for feedback after a big event, a complex project, or a major scheduling win. These are natural moments where your contribution is still top of mind for your stakeholders. A simple “Hey, I’d love to know what worked well for you on this project” can open the door to valuable, real-time insight. You’re not being needy—you’re being strategic.
- Group It Like a Pro. A random collection of nice comments is fine, but structured feedback? That’s next-level. Start grouping feedback under key categories that reflect your role: Executive Support, Communication, Project Management, Stakeholder Relationships, Problem Solving. Not only does this make your strengths clear, but it also helps you identify patterns. Where are you consistently showing up strong? What themes keep popping up? When you walk into that performance review, you’ve got a curated, organized highlight reel ready to go.
- Turn Praise Into Power. Here’s the real magic: using your feedback to drive your career forward. All those screenshots, saved emails, and positive comments? They’re not just nice to have - they’re your evidence. Pull them into your performance reviews, development conversations, or salary chats. Use them to show how you’ve added value, solved problems, and supported the team. You’re not boasting - you’re bringing receipts. You’re not hoping someone noticed, you’ve got the proof they did. This is how you turn day-to-day wins into long-term recognition.

Google Drive (or SharePoint)
Sometimes, simple is powerful, and a well-organised folder system can go a long way. This week, set up a dedicated “Feedback & Wins” folder in Google Drive or SharePoint. Here’s how to structure it:
📁 Feedback & Wins ├ 🗂️ Screenshots (Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Email praise) ├ 🗂️ Project-Specific Feedback ├ 🗂️ Executive Praise ├ 🗂️ Testimonials or Recognition from Stakeholders ├ 🗂️ Quarterly Highlights
You can use a simple doc or spreadsheet inside each folder to log: – The date – Who gave the feedback – What was said – What does it relate to (Exec Support, Comms, etc)
📌 Pro Tip: Add a quick-access shortcut to your desktop or bookmarks bar so it’s easy to update on the go. Set a recurring calendar reminder once a month to drop in your latest wins.

This week, your challenge is to start your feedback file and add just three real pieces of feedback to it. That’s it. Quick wins, kind words, “you smashed it” moments - capture them while they’re fresh.
Why it matters: ✅ You’re building a record of your impact, not just your tasks. ✅ It gives you ready-to-go material for your next performance review. ✅ It helps you spot patterns in how others experience your value.
Need a starting point? Here’s what to look out for this week: – A colleague saying thank you in a meeting or message – A project lead complimenting your prep or communication – Your Executive noting how "on top of it" you are
Where should it live? Anywhere easy: a Google Doc, email folder, screenshot stash, even a running note on your phone. Just get it started.
What’s one piece of feedback you’re saving this week? Share your wins in The EA Campus Community so we can celebrate them with you—and inspire others to do the same.
