How to Ensure Your Potential Doesn’t Stay a Secret
If you want to shift how people see you in your role, the smartest way to start is by picking your branding pillars. Think of these as the two or three areas where you want to be known, recognized, and valued. Instead of trying to prove yourself in every direction, pillars help you focus your energy where it counts - the skills and strengths that signal you’re ready for more.
1. Choose Your Pillars
Look at your Executive’s current priorities and the wider goals of your organization. Where can you add the most value? Maybe it’s protecting leadership time, improving cross-team workflows, driving adoption of AI, or enhancing communication. Your pillars should feel business-relevant and authentic to your strengths. If you’re not sure, ask yourself: “What do I want to be known for six months from now?”
2. Plan Quick Wins
Once you’ve chosen your pillars, tie each one to a practical action you can deliver in the next month. Keep it small but visible. For example:
- Time ROI: Restructure one recurring meeting to cut it by 30 minutes.
- Operations: Create a one-page SOP for a process that’s currently messy.
- Tech & AI: Test a tool that saves time and show the results.
- Influence & Communication: Reframe your next update in terms of outcomes, not tasks.
These quick wins prove your pillars in action and start shifting how people perceive you.
3. Share the Results
A rebrand only sticks if people see the change. Don’t just tell your Executive what you did - show them what it delivered. For example, instead of “I rescheduled the meeting,” say “That freed up two hours in your week to prep for client calls.” Linking actions to outcomes makes your value crystal clear and anchors your brand pillars in results.

EAs are known for completing their tasks and ensuring everything runs smoothly. This often means that Executives don’t see the work that goes into “making things happen.” A side effect of this challenge is that EAs can often feel undervalued and underutilized. So, what can you do when you feel undervalued, and how can you make a change?

This week, your challenge is to test one branding pillar by creating a quick win that makes your value visible.
Step 1: Pick your pillar Decide which area you want to highlight first - Time ROI, Operations & Logistics, Tech & AI, or Influence & Communication.
Step 2: Choose one action Keep it small but tangible. For example: shorten a recurring meeting, write a one-page SOP, draft meeting notes with Gemini/Copilot, or reframe an update around outcomes.
Step 3: Deliver it this week Put the action into play. Don’t overthink it; the goal is proof, not perfection.
Step 4: Share the outcome When you tell the story, focus on the result, not just the task. For example: “This freed up 45 minutes in the leadership agenda” or “The team had a clear decision tracker within 15 minutes.”
