We need to talk about AI workslop

You know that email you have to read three times

AI workslop is becoming your problem

If you’ve recently opened one of your Exec's emails, read it twice, and still thought, “What are they actually asking here?”, this one is for you.

Because I’ve had a few of those this week. You know the ones. Looks very polished, lots of paragraphs, quite confident in tone, absolutely no clear answer anywhere in sight.

And after the third read, you realise… I now have to fix this.

And it’s at that moment where you realise the work hasn’t been done yet, it’s just been dressed up nicely and handed over.

It's very similar to “can you just quickly” and usually the same culprit. The problem is, this type of work doesn’t save time; it just makes more work for everyone. That is what we are covering in this week's newsletter. Welcome to AI workslop.

We’re often the ones who will start seeing AI workslop first, or notice it more often than others as it becomes part of everyday work. You might already be spotting it or you might just be starting to notice it creeping in. Either way, this is an area for EAs where I can see growth potential and where we can add a lot of value.

That is why so many EAs are now trying to train ChatGPT to match your Executive’s style rather than relying on one-off prompts, but because we know our Executive’s style so well, a response can be factually correct and still be wrong if it sounds too soft, too formal, too long, or simply not like your Executive.

Key Points for This Week

A very simple way to handle AI workslop

You don’t need a big process for this.

Just a quick mental checklist when AI workslop hits your desk.

☑ Does this actually answer the question
☑ Is this specific to our business, or could this be sent anywhere
☑ Would this make sense to my Executive without me explaining it
☑ Is anything important missing
☑ Am I about to spend longer fixing this than it would take to push it back

If you hit a couple of “no’s”, that’s usually your sign to either fix it yourself or push back on the person who has sent it over.

Wednesday 18th March No: 59 Everyone is talking about Claude right now And is it worth the switch from ChatGPT? Over the past few weeks, a lot of people have been talking about the latest updates from Anthropic’s Claude, especially a feature called Claude Co-Work. A few writers have even said they stopped opening ChatGPT after switching to it, mainly because it handles longer instructions and extended working sessions much better. As EAs, that immediately piqued our curiosity. A lot of our...
