Run the Office From Anywhere

Build a Powerhouse Partnership Remotely

1. Clarify Communication Channels Up Front
Don’t leave communication to chance. Ask your Executive how and when they prefer to communicate—Slack messages, email summaries, quick calls? Agree on the best channels for updates, questions, and urgent issues so you’re always aligned.

2. Lock in a Weekly 1:1 (and Treat it Like Gold)
Set a recurring video check-in that stays sacred. This is your time to align on goals, priorities, and challenges. Even a 15-minute virtual stand-up keeps the connection strong and ensures you stay in sync, no matter the distance.

3. Use a Decision-Making Framework
Define which decisions you can handle solo, which need a heads-up, and which require sign-off. This avoids delays and shows your Executive that you’re proactive, reliable, and capable—even when you're not in the same room.

4. Send Smart, Regular Updates
Keep your Executive in the loop without overwhelming them. A quick weekly summary of wins, priorities, and blockers makes your work visible and keeps things moving. Bonus: it builds trust and positions you as a strategic partner.

We will explore practical strategies to help you build an exceptional partnership with your remote Executive, utilising collaboration tools, innovative approaches to working, and lessons learned from the rise of remote and hybrid work. Building a strong partnership with your remote Executive starts with small, intentional steps that build trust over time.

Tech Stack

Scribe AI

Scribe is a browser-based tool that quietly runs in the background while you complete a task, capturing each click, scroll, and keystroke to automatically generate a visual step-by-step guide. Instead of manually writing instructions for your Executive or colleagues, you can simply hit "record," carry out the task, and let Scribe create a polished walkthrough complete with screenshots and captions. It’s particularly useful for documenting recurring processes, such as booking travel, navigating internal systems, or submitting expense reports.

Goal-Setting Challenge

This week’s challenge is all about making sure nothing gets lost in translation, especially when you're working remotely.

Strong partnerships don’t happen without strong communication. That means knowing exactly how your Executive wants to hear from you, and when.

💡 Here’s your mission:
Audit your current communication habits and book a 15-minute meeting with your Executive to ask:

  • What’s your preferred channel for day-to-day updates? (Slack? Email? Phone? Teams?)
  • When do you want to receive non-urgent updates—daily, weekly, or only when something changes?
  • What’s the best way to flag something urgent?
  • Do you want a summary or full context when I share info?

Document what you agree in a shared “How We Work” note or email so expectations are set and visible.

📌 Stretch Target:
Create a quick-reference guide for yourself that outlines communication do’s and don’ts - so even when things get busy, you stay aligned. Share your wins in the EA Campus Community so we can celebrate them with you and inspire others to do the same.
